My business already sells without ads, do I need to start?

Ierònne ·

If your business is already selling well without ad spend, the question of whether you need to start doesn't have an automatic "yes, you should always run ads" answer. It depends on where you're standing.

If organic growth (referrals, word of mouth, social without ads) is still climbing, forcing an ad investment can be premature. The real risk there isn't skipping ads, it's pulling budget and attention away from what's already working well on its own.

The sign it's actually worth considering shows up when that organic growth starts flattening out, not because the product got worse, but because you've hit the natural limit of your current reach: the same people who already knew you still know you, and reaching new people outside that circle needs a push that organic growth alone doesn't give.

At that point, ads don't replace what's already working, they complement it: you keep leaning on organic for retention and loyalty, and use ads specifically to reach the new audience word of mouth hasn't gotten to yet.

If you're not sure which of the two situations you're in, looking at your growth curve over the last few months (not just whether it's growing, but how fast) usually gives a clearer answer than any general rule.
