Do you need an app, or is a well-configured WhatsApp Business enough?

Ierònne ·

Not every customer service problem needs its own app. Sometimes the real solution is simpler than it looks: a well-integrated WhatsApp Business API solves more than people assume.

The important distinction isn't "app or no app", it's understanding what your business specifically needs. The free WhatsApp Business app works for low volume: one main device, no real automation, no metrics, and a real risk of getting blocked if several people try to use the same account from different devices. For a small business with few conversations a day, that can be enough.

When volume grows, that's where the API comes in: it lets you integrate with a management system, automate responses, track follow-ups, and measure results without relying on one person watching a phone all day.

With FEM HOMI, the problem wasn't a missing channel, it was that every department at the fund ran its own personal WhatsApp, with no way to centralize or measure support. On top of that, they needed to send mass broadcast messages legitimately, to avoid getting their account blocked. The solution wasn't replacing WhatsApp with something new, it was building a structured support layer around the API, solving the real problem without forcing anyone to switch the channel their members already used.

Before assuming you need an app from scratch, it's worth asking whether the problem is the channel, or the structure behind it.
